bob dylan Essay -- essays research papers
The Hurricane à à à à à Bob Dylanââ¬â¢s song, The Hurricane, brings to surface several of the themes covered in class this semester. The song explores general themes like community and responsibility, while also focusing on many of the sub-themes, such as justice and injustice, appearance and reality, and loyalty and abandonment. Throughout the song, the main characters constantly battle with the above themes in attempt to frame an innocent man. While the song brings up many of these themes, Dylanââ¬â¢s characters show little consistency with the texts covered, as the texts tend to try to find reconciliation in the characters, while Dylanââ¬â¢s characters feel no remorse in their actions. à à à à à The song starts as ââ¬Å"Pistol shots ring out in the barroom night,â⬠and the manager arrives to see the bartender in a pool of blood. ââ¬Å"Here comes the story of the hurricane,/ The man the authorities came to blame/ for somethinââ¬â¢ that he never done,â⬠Dylan continues. The hurricane is an up-and-coming middleweight boxer by the name of Rubin Carter. The song details his wrongful imprisonment, and exposes the injustice and irresponsibility of a community in Paterson, New Jersey. à à à à à The barââ¬â¢s manager, Patty Valentine, acts as an enabler for this irresponsibility, allowing it to continue although she knows it is most likely not the truth. ââ¬Å"Three bodies lyinââ¬â¢ there does Patty see/ And another man named Bello movinââ¬â¢ around mysterious...

Overcoming Adhd
Overcoming my ADHD Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (also known as ADHD) is a common condition that affects children and adolescents, and can carry on to adulthood. ADHD is a problem with inattentiveness, over-activity, and impulsivity. Depression, lack of sleep, learning disabilities, tic disorders, and behavior problems may be confused with, or appear with, ADHD. I always had problems paying attention and focusing. I was always extremely hyperactive, always running around wanting to play with my friends and avoid homework. My parents recognized the behaviors I was showing, since both my brother and sister showed them at my age as well, and were both on medication for ADHD. When I turned 14, my parents took me to a psychiatrist to talk about my symptoms of ADHD and see if I was going to be prescribed medication. I wasnââ¬â¢t really sure what it was or how medication would help me with ADHD. When I went to the psychiatrist, she asked me a series of questions, like about my organizational skills, and about homework and grades. After I told her I had trouble getting homework completed, and I was really forgetful and not organized with my schoolwork, she diagnosed me of ADHD and prescribed me on Adderall. Since Iââ¬â¢ve been taking adderall, my grades have improved greatly, and Iââ¬â¢ve improved so much on focusing and being more organized. I also meet with my psychiatrist every three months to talk about my ADHD and if I think my medication is still effective. The symptoms of ADHD fall into three categories: lack of attention (inattentiveness), hyperactivity, and impulsive behavior (impulsivity). Some children show inattentive behaviors, while others (like me) show inattention and hyper behaviors, also called combined ADHD. Some inattentive symptoms include difficulty organizing or completing tasks, failing to pay close attention to details, and are easily distracted. Hyperactivity symptoms include being fidgety, unable to sit still, and disruptive towards other people. Symptoms of impulsivity include being impatient behaviors. The diagnosis of ADHD is based on very specific symptoms. Children should have at least 6 attention symptoms or 6 hyperactivity/impulsivity symptoms, with some symptoms present before age 7.The symptoms must be severe enough to cause significant difficulties in many settings, including home, school, and in relationships with peers. The child should have an evaluation by a doctor if ADHD is suspected (which is why I went to a family psychiatrist). Sometimes an evaluation by a doctor might even include complete a developmental, mental, nutritional, physical, and psychosocial examination. Treatment of ADHD is between the parents, individual, and doctor, since there are various approaches towards treatment. Such approaches include behavioral therapy and medication.Whatever the therapy chosen, it is important that the individual makes sure they are following the treatment rules as planned. A lot of doctors d ebate over the proper use of treatment for ADHD since it is seen as a neurological and behavioral disorder. I believe that ADHD is a neurobiological disorder, and itââ¬â¢s symptoms of inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsivity is shown through behaviors. The first treatment Iââ¬â¢m going to talk about is medication. I think medication is a great way to approach ADHD, since it is a neurological and behavioral disorder.

Face Of Our Time Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Face Of Our Time - Research Paper Example Jim Goldbergââ¬â¢s collection of photographs about refugees was very heart throbbing. His spot-on method used that of centering or focusing the subject at the center created an odd power between the centre and auxiliary. One of them was Making Fire taken at the Democratic Republic of Congo. The photo captured the image of an African woman who had unrecognizable state and only showed her pursed lips. Her facial expression looked like she is upset but not very identifiable because of the shadow in her eyes. What really caught the attention of the audience is the autograph made by the subject herself. She wrote ââ¬Å"I am a whoreâ⬠on the photo and the photo did really speak of how our world looks like today. Refugees such as the subject on the photo have been ignored in our time today. They who badly need our help had been uncared for and mistreated. The picture did not really capture the true emotion of the subject but it really showed that the woman was not happy. Looking at the pictures exhibited by Goldberg, the photographs were able to hold the true meaning and goal of the exhibit. Like Making the Fire, the woman looked like she was not even given care and protection. Her autograph may imply that she was not ashamed of what she is or she is tired of being one and she wanted to tell the people that she existed and needed help. There may be a lot of interpretation of her photograph and what she wrote on the picture, but definitely it is not happiness. The Swiss photographer, Daniel Schwartz, focused his subjects to the effects of globalization. The photographs were able to portray less exposed subjects such as Bazaar Day. The photographs were collection of his travel. Though the images offer the audience less feeling of vulnerability, the photographs remain persistent. These pictures spoke that globalization is widespread and a lot of places were very much affected. Poverty and inequality can be seen in the pictures. If some countries have very clean and organized places such as market, a lot of places in central Asia do not have these opportunities and facilities. Thus globalization has its own series of pitfalls. Looking at Schwartzââ¬â¢s collection, he really wanted to convey a message about globalization to the world. Someoneââ¬â¢s perfect place can mean to give another oneââ¬â¢s place inadequacy. If there are countries that were blessed because of globalization, there are also those suffering because of it. Zanele Muholiââ¬â¢s collection and work gave voice to the visual identity of the marginalized queer black people in South Africa. Her elegant photographs of queer and transgendered women showed a strong message regarding marginalization of this kind of population. The collection spoke of identity and being of the queers. Discrimination especially based on gender has long been an issue not only in South Africa but in the world. The elegant portraits by Muholi showed pride, strength, and identity of the queer b lacks. South African queers, with reference to the pictures, are very proud of who they are and what they are. They posed strongly and proudly to the artist. Thus, there wasnââ¬â¢t any sign of them being ashamed. The works of Muholi showed how the queers stood for their right of being despite being marginalized. A Danish

Macroeconomics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words - 1
Macroeconomics - Essay Example The paper concludes with the role of various entities in controlling voluntary unemployment. Classical economists viewed labour market similar to other markets based on supply and demand in that price would adjust to ensure that quantity demanded equaled quantity supplied. However, labour market differs in setting price and quantity of supply and demand. In case of labour market, effective supply of labour is a challenge as it depends on factors such as time, skills, wages and availability. A rise in overall wages may not result in more supply of labour; on the contrary, may lead to less supply of labour or no change in labour. Within the overall labour market, particular segments are assumed to be subject to more normal rules of supply and demand as workers are likely to change jobs due to various reasons, particularly in response to differing wage rates leading to unemployment for certain period of time. Unemployment is one of the serious problems that can affect people directly or indirectly, in any nation. Every country faces this problem; however, it widely varies in proportion. Labour economics is one of the important sections of market economics, besides financial market and product market, and is studied at micro and macro levels. While, microeconomics of labour market deal with role of individuals and individual firms in the labour market, macroeconomics looks at the interrelations of labour market, the goods market, the money market, and the foreign trade market. Understanding of labour market is the centre feature of any macroeconomic theory. In the classical view of the labor market, all unemployment is voluntary. When the economy goes into a recession and the demand for labor falls, the wage rate will decline and people will opt out of the labor force. However, the classical theory could not explain situations the 1930 recession thoroughly. Economics has various definitions of voluntary and involuntary
